I hesitate to use the appropriate 'c' word in the title because as we know it's all a relative term and certainly gandering about The Outnet, it's certainly not cheap by most people's stretch of the imagination. Discounts though are cheerful judging by the popularity of sites like Gilt Group, Cocosa and Yoox and The Outnet, with its recent redesign has the editing wand that means pretty much 99% of the stuff that goes in is unlikely to be a dud. A couple of weeks ago, the team got together to do the always-welcome-by-photo-lovin'-bloggers move of allowing us to play !!Dress Up!! - I say that with capital letters because there's an inate sense of girly urgency and excitement to the term that rendered most of the participants' tweets on the day littered with exclamation marks.
At the shoot, they displayed a lot of the pieces that were online or going in, grouped into recognisable trend groups that of course points out that clothes from previous seasons of course still have current-trend relevancy depending on what you do with them. Not that everything on your bod necessarily needs to be *excited and panicked voice* !!on-trend!! but there is something satisfying about buying things from previous seasons and for them not to be instantly recongisable because of course, ALL of us have photographic memories of S/S 11 collections imprinted into our heads.
So to my pre-picked rail... much of it isn't on site anymore but there is however a Style Bubble selection of things on The Outnet which match my tickboxes of BRIGHT, SHINY, NEON with the odd bits of grey thrown in for balanced measure...
For the first few looks, I had a go at styling the handy model on set who did a wonderful job of having extra long limbs, bright blonde hair, angular cheekbones and generally showing some moves on camera that meant there were lots and lots of choice shots.
The make-up artist also handily gave me a tip about Barry M lip/eye pencils that can be used to fill the lips...
See - these are model-esque MOVES, aided by the billowing movement of the Roksanda Ilincic trousers which are sadly not on sale anymore... but hopefully they have gone to a home where dramatic leg movements are appreciated.
(Wearing Richard Nicoll colour blocked vest, Roksanda Ilincic trousers, Fendi shoes)
Do you remember Carine Roitfeld designing a jumper for Lutz & Patmos? Nope, I didn't either until it turned up at The Outnet shoot - it's still available and perhaps will be a pointer to future post-Paris-Vogue projects...
(Wearing Dominic Jones rings, Lutz & Patmos jumper, Richard Nicoll skirt)
Finally I subjected the model to a cape n' dress combo...
(Wearing Clemens en August cape, monster beats pro, Eun Jeong dress, Alexander Wang boots that are coming on site soon I believe...)
What sort of a fashion blogger would I be if I didn't partake in the !!Dress Up!! shenanigans. Prepping oneself with a dance move that is part Macarena/part Tragedy a la Steps is vital of course...
I think I may have said something for The Outnet cameras that tried to be all theoretical and intelligent about why I picked this outfit out. To be honest, it was just about the neon/yellow/vaguely-yellow-tinged bits, from the bag, the pleated panel on the 3.1 Phillip Lim dress, my own Issey Miyake skirt and the shoes... and hoping with a prayer that it all comes together to make some sort of sense.
(Wearing 3.1 Phillip Lim dress, Jimmy Choo clutch, Proenza Schouler shoes, my own Issey Miyake skirt)
What's a ,Breaking News!!Dress Up!! shoot without a Polaroid camera on hand to take some cute pictures?
If there were macaroons, cupcakes and some twee cups of tea, that would have been girlish !!! overload... I'll leave you with a xx instead that tops off an indulgent day of exclaiming too much.
